  • I have been growing my hair for what feels like years now. I cut it short about 5 years ago and have been growing and trimming and growing and trimming it ever since. My hair is a good length now - about two inches above my bra strap but its not long enough yet.
    I obviously don't want to cut it again but felt like a change. A few weeks back i cut myself some bangs, and then some shaping around my face and today i decided i was going to throw a little colour on it.
    So here is my before shot - me with my normal hair colour.
    This is the hair colour that i eventually decided on - it was either this Mahogany or Chestnut Brown.
    Forty minutes later i had washed it out and dried my hair and walla - a new me!
    I have never had it this colour before or even anything close to this colour before to be honest, but i do like it. Here's to a good 6 - 8 weeks of Mahogany hair!

    I only have one lot of antibiotics left to take and then the course is complete. I am feeling better and so think it is the perfect time to get myself back into the gym and make some changes. I have decided that i need to make a real commitment to this weight loss thing. Days are turning into weeks, weeks are turning into months and this year is almost over!

    So today is my new first day and here are my boundaries:
    * Weigh only once a week - on a Monday.
    * Exercise 5 days a week - for a min of 30 minutes.
    * Plan a weekly menu
    * Eat only when i feel hungry
    * Keep a food journal
    * Have my fibre powder every day
    * Never give up!

    My photo keeps uploading sideways so i am going to give it a try a little later.

    I have just been going through the photos on my memory stick and i came across this photo. If i remember correctly, i took this photo myself a few days ago.
    I'm not 100% sure just what it is about this photo that i love, but i know that i honestly do love it!
    Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.

    "The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek, therefore, not to find out Who you are, seek to determine Who you want to be" - Neale Donald Walsch
    I have been on a journey of discovery for a while now, but it seems that my journey has gained some serious moment these past few weeks. Perhaps it is down to the ground work that i was doing before hand. Perhaps it was down to something more. All i know is that although this journey is making me feel somewhat unsure and is giving me butterflies,i also know that this is the start of something exciting, of something life changing. Thank you Lord for all that you are doing in me and for all that you have planned for me.

    Saturday was pretty much a day filled with food. We went to a beautiful garden centre and i was treated to a huge, fresh, still warm cherry scone with butter.
    We then went home, did some shopping and then went round to my mom's for dinner. She made a South African meal, Babootie, and then my dad brought out these gorgeous Cherry Chocolate cupcakes.

    Bobotie
    2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    2 onions, peeled and sliced
    2 1/4 pounds good quality lean ground beef
    1 thickish slice of white bread
    1 cup milk
    1 tablespoon medium curry powder (or hot for the hale and brave)
    1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
    2 teaspoons salt
    freshly grated pepper (about a half teaspoon)
    3/4 teaspoon turmeric
    1 1/2 tablespoons malt vinegar
    1/2 cup seedless raisins
    2 tablespoons strong chutney
    2 bay leaves (or fresh lemon leaves if available)
    2 medium eggs

    METHOD
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
    Heat oil in medium saute pan. Stir in onions. Cook over medium heat until transparent. Add ground beef. Cook until lightly browned and crumbly.
    Soak bread in half the milk, squeeze out excess milk and mash with a fork - DON'T TOSS SQUEEZED OUT MILK! Pour it straight back into remaining milk. Set milk aside, and ad pulled-apart bread to the meat mixture.
    Add curry, sugar, salt, pepper, turmeric, vinegar, raisins, chutney to the beef mixture. Spoon the mixture into a greased baking dish, and place bay leaves on top.
    Bake for 50-60 minutes in preheated 350°F oven.
    Beat egg with remaining milk and pour over mixture approximately 25 - 30 minutes before end of baking time.
    Serve with steamed rice (traditionally yellow!) and extra chutney.

    Serves: 6

    Today i am trusting that if i ever need to use the first aid training that i learnt this week, it will come back to me. The brain is an amazing muscle and its ability to bring back things needed in times of stress is unbelievable.
    I am grateful that the weekend is just about to begin and that i will have some time to relax and catching up on some things.
    Just recently, i have been inspired by cookbooks and recipe blogs. I think its more the photos in the books and on the blogs but it is just so eye catching. So beautiful. I love good food. I love the smell, the taste, the texture, the anticipation. From the simple things like omelets through to the more sophisticated dishes.

    an artist most definitely. This i know without a shadow of doubt. While i like and hope that other people will enjoy my work, i don't need their validation or affirmation to confirm that i am indeed an artist.
    My tag in my art journal is my take on Donna's Mixed Media post. I haven't had much time lately to do as much art and creating as i would like but getting my hands wet today has really inspired me to do more.

    someone who is not afraid to try new things. And as they say the proof is in the pudding. My mom is currently reading this book about our bodies and the PH level of our bodies. How the acidity that is in our bodies hurts us and what we need to do to bring our bodies back in line.
    This way of life is apparently excellent for diabetics, and as my brother is both a diabetic and currently fighting cancer, my mom is trying to get him to help his body as much as possible.
    I seem to be rambling, back to the point of this is that one of the chapters in this book is about exercise. He says that one of the best exercises that someone can do include walking, swimming and rebounding. So, after spending some time on the Internet my mom and i found a mini trampoline and some cool moves.
    This morning i went out and picked up one of these for us to have a go on. Apart from just about falling off it a few times, we also spent a lot of time falling about from all the laughter! I am going to give it a go this week. They suggest 10 minutes for the first 7 days and then i will try to increase it to 20 minutes.

    trying to move forward with my life. I am trying to figure things out, make some big decisions and move forward with the life that i truly want.
    I am not saying that my life right now is horrible, or bad but i do know that i don't want to stay where i am right now. I am growing and trying new things. I am making decisions, weighing up my options. Some days i do a good job in moving forwards - other days not so much.
    So just how am i trying to figure out how to move forward? I am reading books, listening to Cd's, truly thinking about things and most importantly i am taking action.
    One of the areas that i am currently working on and figuring out is "Who am I?" This is a huge question and i realise that i will never be able to say that i have it understood and answered 100%. I know that we change with time, due to circumstances and experiences, they shape us. But i want to be able to have a pretty good understanding of who i am for the majority of me.
    I am not sure how often i will blog about this and the other things that i am working on but i am going to tag any and all posts with I am so that you can travel along this journey with me and maybe even pick up something along the way that will help you.

    I am trusting that while i currently feel as though i am completely out of control with my eating and totally lazy with my exercising that somehow i will find a way to work through this. I cant do it on my own, in my own strength and so i am trusting that God will speak to me, help me and teach me.
    I am grateful for life. This week Nic's nana passed away. Even though she had lived a good life and was the ripe age of 83, the lose that the family are feeling is beyond words.
    I am inspired by bangs at the moment. The way that one simple cut can change the entire look of someones face is fantastic! I am currently trying to decide about a bang for myself so once i know i will let you guys know....

    I am so proud of myself. It has taken me one day short of nine years to successfully gain this title. Hours spent filling out form after form. Days spent into doing the necessary things they required to ensure i fulled all the criteria. Months spent saving up the thousands of British pounds that it has cost. Years spent seeing this goal through.

    British passport here i come!

    This past week has been a week full of rain here in Leicester. None stop rain. Rain that is soft and constant one minute and then changes to a sudden down pour in a matter of seconds and ends up last an hour or more. Tuesday evening, at 10:50, i had just gotten settled down in bed. You know that warm fuzzy feeling you get after a long hard day? That was where i was at when i heard this noise as if someone had turned a top on in the kitchen. I got out of bed, turned the light on and found myself a waterfall running our of the light fitting in my hallway. Not only did i have a floor covered in water but i managed to fill up three huge pan fulls of water before it start to subside!
    Needless to say i had to turn off all my electricity and move out of my flat for three days while they sorted out the roof and then the electric. My friend came round to climb into my attic to see if he could find the leak and in the process he managed to totally demolish my bookshelf that held ALL my art supplies. So i had to find a new solution. It got delivered Saturday morning.
    So here are some photos so that you can truly appreciate just why i need a weekend after this weekend! This was the corner where my new chest of draws was to go once it arrived. Not too bad you say! Wait for the next photos....lol!
    This is where i stored all those said art supplies until my new chest of draws were delivered. And then the second photo was taken Sunday afternoon - after i had finally managed to finish cleaning my lounge, bedroom, hallway, bathroom and store room!
    Here are some photos of inside my new chest of draws. This great buy has six draws but don't worry - i am only showing you two of them. On a side note - i found this little treasure at one of my local second hand shop. It cost me £49 with delivery and is perfect for what i need it for.

    And finally this is what the room looked like after i had cleared out all the craft stuff. All the rubbish in the before photo above was also in this tiny room below. You can imagine just how full this little room was!

    All the shelving that you see up in this room was done courtesy of my lovely dad. He spent about 2 hours putting these up in here and also putting one up in my bedroom for me. I am so pleased with all my hard work and how all these rooms look now. But....this is why i need another weekend!
