  • There is nothing as lovely as receiving a surprise parcel in the mail.  My dear friend Jodi sent me this gorgeous spring parcel all the way from Canada.

It arrived at work - out of the blue. Such exciting stuff to brighten up what was a really horrible day.
And look at the cute stampy thing.......
    From anywhere....to anyone
    Love it!
And look at the gorgeous stuff that Jodi sent me.
But from all this wonderful, one of the best gifts has to be the Starbucks tumbler.
Thank you so much Jodi - The parcel is lovely.  You put so much thought into all the items and it is so very much appreciated!

My first week as a team manager has been many things.  It has been exhausting but exciting.  I have been on the go constantly.......to the point where i have gotten home and realised that i have only had 1 cup of tea all day and only been to the ladies once.  I have had to deal with a particular guy who went for the job and didn't get it and who is now in my team........trying to get someone to not undermine you is exhausting on it's own.  I have had to deal with disgruntled staff and a lot of extra work that wasn't done before i started and needed to be.
I have learned that having an "inner circle" of people who you can trust is so important. My inner circle is not yet as big as i would like but i have made a good start on it.  I have learned to stand my ground while being professional and polite. I have learnt that by helping people get to where they want to be, they in turn will help you.

After some overtime on Saturday morning, i decided that a treat was in order.  I am trying to stay away from using food as a treat, so i decided to use some of my vouchers instead of the credit card.....see, not just a pretty face....hehe!  After two hours of shopping, i came home with several gorgeous items, some on here for you to view, others to be shared over the next few weeks.

While out shopping for a new pair of sunglasses, i found myself in a dilemma. Two pairs, both very different, but both liked in equal proportions.

So tell me..........which one should i keep and which one should i return?

Today marks the first day of my new job. Yup, that's right - my new job.
A promotion of sort - even if it is only for a temporary period of time.  I am relishing in the achievement - I am so proud of myself.  I have been waiting and applying for this sort of development opportunity for months and months and finally my Heavenly Father has opened this doors for me.

A beautiful butterfly cupcake was definitely in order!

When things get quiet on here its normally because i am busy. Busy juggling a hectic job, psychology assignments, studying, family, my life and everything else that comes my way.  While all of these things are very important at the moment, it really makes me realise how totally out of balance my life currently is.

Out of balanced means an uncanny amount of stress.
Major, consistent stress means a more likely occurrence of binging.

These past few days i have been realising the importance of looking after myself. Keeping myself healthy - emotionally, physically and spiritually - means that i will live a better life. I can not do all that i need to do if i am in any way sick.

So the next days i am focusing on being healthy and looking after myself

Being a perfectionist is who i am. My standards that i have for myself are high and this means that  i tend to place a lot of pressure on my own shoulders.   I'm not sure if i have always been like that or if it is something that i have picked up along the way.

What i do know is that having to be perfect all the time, in all things and for all people is exhausting!  Studying, working, family, friends, life, food, chores - it all adds up and it can quickly become overwhelming.

The thing that i am trying to take on board at the moment is that good is good enough.  I dont have to be perfect at everything, all the time. It is alright to have things in my life that i only do to a good level. It may be helpful to make a list of things that don't need to be done perfectly, for example cleaning. Your house doesnt always need to be spotless. If you are short on time then a vacume may be good enough for now. You can always polish and wash windows and all those other things that you would normally do to perfectly complete the task can be done another time.

Today i am trying to choose those activities that can be done good enough. Do you have any that you can make that conscious decision to complete good enough instead of perfectly?

These are my legs and i have started to like them. It may take me a while to really love them but i am definitely at least one step further than what i was last week.  As part of the information i have come across during my research into eating disorders and disordered eating, I have found that low self images go hand in hand with the disorder.....and in my case, that is very true.

I came across this list of 20 ways to love your body and wanted to share it.  Some of them include making furst lists for specific things which i may do a little later on.

Enjoy and i hope that this helps you too:

    1. Think of your body as the vehicle to your dreams. Honor it. Respect it. Fuel it.

    2. Create a list of all the things your body lets you do. Read it and add to it often.

    3. Become aware of what your body can do each day. Remember it is the instrument of your life, not just an ornament.

    4. Create a list of people you admire: people who have contributed to your life, your community, or the world. Consider whether their appearance was important to their success and accomplishments.

    5. Walk with your head held high, supported by pride and confidence in yourself as a person.

    6. Don’t let your weight or shape keep you from activities that you enjoy.

    7. Wear comfortable clothes that you like, that express your personal style, and that feel good to your body.

    8. Count your blessings, not your blemishes.

    9. Think about all the things you could accomplish with the time and energy you currently spend worrying about your body and appearance. Try one!

    10. Be your body’s friend and supporter, not its enemy.

    11. Consider this: your skin replaces itself once a month, your stomach lining every five days, your liver every six weeks, and your skeleton every three months. Your body is extraordinary--begin to respect and appreciate it.

    12. Every morning when you wake up, thank your body for resting and rejuvenating itself so you can enjoy the day.

    13. Every evening when you go to bed, tell your body how much you appreciate what it has allowed you to do throughout the day.

    14. Find a method of exercise that you enjoy and do it regularly. Don’t exercise to lose weight or to fight your body. Do it to make your body healthy and strong and because it makes you feel good. Exercise for the Three F’s: Fun, Fitness, and Friendship.

    15. Think back to a time in your life when you felt good about your body. Tell yourself you can feel like that again, even in this body at this age.

    16. Keep a list of 10 positive things about yourself--without mentioning your appearance. Add to it!

    17. Put a sign on each of your mirrors saying, “I’m beautiful inside and out.”

    18. Choose to find the beauty in the world and in yourself.

    19. Start saying to yourself, “Life is too short to waste my time hating my body this way.”

    20. Eat when you are hungry. Rest when you are tired. Surround yourself with people that remind you of your inner strength and beauty.

    Don’t Weigh Your Self-Esteem. It’s What’s Inside That Counts!

Before you say anything I already know. 10 years is way too long a time to keep eye shadow or probably any make-up item for.  But, there's a story behind this gift that i just wanted to remember and share.

I'm a scrapbooker without the free time to scrapbook and as they say, we need to document our stories.

My mom bought this for me when i turned 18. I was never allowed to wear makeup before this and i guess what you don't know doesn't hurt, because i never really felt like i was missing out. None of my friends wore makeup either so it was never that much of a big deal for me.

Then everything changed.  I turned 18, i got my drivers license, i made plans to leave home and fly half way across the world to America  to start the best journey of my life.  And all with my very first brown eyeshadow, mascara, lip balm and Tommy Hilfiger perfume that my mom bought for me out of her secret little savings fund.

Here i sit, 10 years later having accrued more air miles than i could ever use, living in yet another new continent, having gone through a fiance and a separation and some incredibly tough times, looking at this little plastic container of eyeshadow and having it bring a smile to my face.

Just this week i was having a spring clean, after all i have now been in my flat for over a year which is the longest time that i have spent in one place in the last three years, and as i picked this up i had the same thought that has run through my head every spring clean since 2000......."Is it time to throw out the make up?"

The answer is still no.  Even though i don't wear it i just cant throw it out.

So it appears that this will be staying with me for a little while longer!

When was the last time that you were in the cinema in the middle of the day?  It has been years since i have been and you know what......it was awesome!  I felt like i was bunking school.  A feeling i haven't felt in a very long time.

Today we went to watch Fast and Furious 5. It was so cool!  I loved the story line, the speed, the cars and the gorgeous men.  Oh, such gorgeous men....lol !

Watching this film totally reminded me of my time in the US. When i was living there, a group of us used to leave home at about 10 at night to go to the drag racing in Milford. It was so awesome with all those cool cars and new people. And best of all, i felt so naughty. I was such a little rebel.  It made me feel alive back then, and it did so again today.

    I LOVED IT!!

Lately i have been a little hit and miss when it comes to eating.  I have been trying so hard to get a handle on this thing but the roots behind my struggle seems to go deeper than i first thought.

One of the things that i have learnt during my recent hours on the Internet researching my situation is that there are a few things that i can do for myself right now that may help.  So, this morning i got up, made myself a cup of tea and sat down with my laptop and paper to make a food plan for the coming week.

I was really pleased with the outcome.  I felt in control and best of all prepared!  On the left hand side of my paper i wrote down the days and meals and on the right hand side i made sure that i had some space to write my grocery list.  Everything that i needed to buy in one place and as i included everything for my week, there is no need for me to deviate from my list when i go shopping....saving my money, anxiety and hopefully despair.

I am totally open to making tweaks to this if it doesn't work, but for now I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

These past few weeks have been very difficult for me.  I think that everything that has happened over the past few years and especially over the past few months have all been leading me to this point.

Last month i started reading this book called Made to Crave by Lisa Terkerst and it's how we use food to substitute our cravings. The essence of the book is that we were created to crave God, to crave that close relationship with our heavenly Father.  Unfortunately, a lot of times we turn to food to fill those cravings which in turn leads us to the problems that we currently face with food.

I am still reading this book, but what i have read so far started me thinking about my own relationship with food. Over the years i have known, if only deep down, that the relationship that i have with food is not a healthy one. It might have started during my childhood but what i know for sure, is that it has gotten worse over the past 6 years.

So I started to do some research. I spent time surfing the Internet, looking at books on Amazon and watching videos on Youtube.  Then two weeks ago on Saturday, i found myself in town for my tutorial. After it had finished, i walked over to the Christian bookshop and spent an hour or so looking through their books. I was pleased to walk out of there with two books, the first one was "What you need to know about an eating disorder" and the second is the book above, "Hope, Help and Healing for eating disorders". The first book is just a little, small book but it was while reading it that i realised that i do indeed have an eating disorder.....Compulsive Overeating or Binging as its also known.  This second book is good and heavy going but as i get deeper into it i am realising more and more that i need help with this if i am ever going to recover from it.

I have done some digging and found a Christian counsellor in my area who deals with eating disorders and i plan to give her a call over the next few days.

Asking for help does not come easy to me, its part of what has helped to create this eating disorder. But I feel as if i am starting on a journey, one that i know will be difficult but one that i know i have to take.  I hope to share my journey to recovery with you so going forward their will be regular posts around the disorders and around how i am getting on, what steps i am taking and what i am learning.
