  • Woohoo me!  I am so proud of myself and so thankful to my heavenly Daddy.

The past six weeks i have been working as a team manager under a "development opportunity". Initially it was supposed to be a 6 month thing, but circumstances changed and it turned out to be six weeks instead.  Then a job came up on the board at work for a permanent Team Manager position and i jumped for the chance to go for it.

First step - get through phase 1 of the interview process.     CHECK
Second step - make a great impression at interview.      CHECK
Third step - Have the job offered to you.      CHECK

Now here is where things get a little weird through our natural eyes....but totally normal when looking through our spiritual eyes.  As it turns out, i didn't get the position that i applied for.  I was second choice and while the feedback was soooo positive, the other guy has been a manager for years and was just that little bit better than me.

And this is where God steps in.....He is totally amazing how He maneuvers things to work for good.  A new job opportunity is going on behind the scenes and the manager for the area wants me for the position.  No interview, no application - just simply a meeting in which he offered me the position.  A permanent L7 Team manager position starting the 1st August 2011.

I was given the weekend to think about it.......but i didn't need to do that. I already knew my answer.

Well done to me and Thank you so much my heavenly daddy.  Without you and your "behind the scenes workings" i would never have gotten here.

    Goal 7 achieved - 1st August 2011!

This weeks Inspiration Workshop over at Gussy Sews is all about the beach.

The beach is one of my most favourite places. It holds so many memories for me.  Holidays with my grandparents - getting caught in a wind storm on the beach and having to run against the wind to try to get off the beach and into the sugar cane fields.

Winter holidays to Mapalane with great friends and caravans. Spending two weeks each year walking along the beach watching the sun rise, catching sea lice to use for bait, watching little sea turtles making their way to the waterline, going snorkeling and see an entirely new world beneath the waters surface and constantly having to had and lock everything away before leaving the caravan to stop the monkeys running off with everything!!  The number of times we came back to the caravan to find the monkeys in our tent, going through our fruit bowl or the fridge or even our clothing.  I lost a flip-flop one year........please tell me what a monkey is going to do with one flip-flop?

Anyways, as i was saying the Beach holds soooo many memories for me that i will always love it

My favourite thing on a Saturday morning is to wake up, make a cup of tea and curl up in my pj's in front of the tele watching morning cartoons. My absolute favourite thing to do.

This morning i had to get up early and head off to work, so there was no time for morning cartoons.  Working six days this week has been no fun at all and to add to that its been a tough week at work.  So, after i had finished work and stopped by the shops to pick up a few things, i made my way home to a much needed cup of tea and some down time before starting the house chores and my uni assignment.

I turned on the TV and saw that Disney's Cars had only just started.  PERFECT!  I made the best decision possible ( OK, the only decision possible when choosing between doing the dishes and watching Disney ) and settled in to enjoy a few hours of fun.

Towards the end of the movie it occurred to me just how much i enjoy Disney movies in general.  If i think back to the Little Mermaid and The Lion King and so many others, these movies make you feel good.  The good guys always come out on top, they always have something morale to share and most importantly they always make you laugh.....and i mean belly laughs!

It's so easy in today's world to forget about taking the time to laugh, to do something you enjoy. I work in a corporate world where its common practice to look after yourself, to realise that you are the only one who looks out for you and that the people friends who you meet within this world may not actually turn out to be true friends when the time comes for them to show their real colours.
I guess i just wanted to say Thank you Disney for making these movies. For remembering those things that are important to people and for doing such a great job with them.  Those feelings of happiness and goodness last a long time and somehow seem to push out any horrible, stressful feelings that may be lurking.

I have always loved Disney movies, but today i remembered that i loved them so much more than i thought i did.

This weeks Inspiration Workshop over at Gussy Sews is all about those things that Inspires me. There are so many things that inspire me i don't really know where to start. So, i thought it would be a good idea to start with those things which are currently inspiring me.

Lets start with Marie Forleo. I only stumbled across her site a few days ago and this is the first video that i have watched of hers and while i don't have my own business, her advice is sound. If you have a goal, and lets face it - we all do, she gives one little nugget of wisdom that is so practical and easy I wondered why i hadn't thought of it before......

A filter question that you apply to your daily tasks and situations to see if it helps you achieve your goals - genius!

Amazing websites like pinterest have got soooo much inspiration on them.  There are a hundred places to start with this site.

How about these gorgeous flowers.  Orange, yellow and white are great combinations and having them in this cute paper funnel thing, hanging on the door just makes it that much more pretty.

And then we have this. What inspires me about this picture is a lot of things. I love the bright colours against the brown fabric and cream walls.  I love the uniqueness of the room and the artistic flare to it.  I love how cosy the room looks, its so inviting. I could see myself curling up in the afternoon sun reading a good book.

And finally how about this bracelet......I love the elephant and the African feel to it. It makes me think of home and brings a smile to my face.

Inspiration comes in many shapes and sizes.  What i love best about inspiration is how individual it is and how the simplest thing can spark the greats idea.

This weeks Inspiration Workshop over at Gussy Sews is all about Sunshine.  Growing up in South Africa means that sunshine was a huge part of my life. I LOVE sunshine and all that it brings with it.  Happy memories of fun filled days, lazy saturdays spent with friends, the most amaizing thunder and lightening storms....and all of this and so much more just from sunshine.

This photo is from my last trip back home to South Africa in September last year.  First stop Cape Town to visit my aunt and cousins. We spent the day at Hermanus with whales just off the ocean shore, the sun shinning up above, guys doing weird and wonderful things like the above and lots of shopping at the local market.

    To me sunshine equals happiness!

I truly believe that happiness is a choice. It might sound strange, but during those times in our lives where happiness is no where to be seen, i believe that we have to take the time to make happiness happen. It takes a conscious effort, and while that can sometimes feel exhausting, it can also be very rewarding.  So lately i have been thinking about those little things in life that i can do make a difference in my day and i thought it would be fun to share those on here.…

It’s all kinds of lovely to get praise from the people around you- but you don’t have to wait around! Sometimes I don’t realize that my internal monologue has been dragging me down until I check it with a few moments of encouragement. It’s a tiny way to start working on changing your world view to be a little kinder, because if you struggle with trusting and valuing yourself it’s really hard to extend those things to others. Even if it feels silly at first, imagine what would your world look like if every time you poured yourself coffee or brushed your teeth, you reminded yourself of some of the natural gifts you posses just by waking up and being yourself?

Sometimes the daily grind can wear through your imagination, which makes it harder to be a creative problem solver and to pinpoint the fun that can be had in an every day situation. A fun way to bring yourself back to a creative place is to create backstories for everyone you cross paths with. Maybe your bus driver is cranky because she was out late with her drag king friends the night before and lost the papers to her 1964 Plymouth after a tense game of mini golf. Maybe your new manager is raising her lover’s baby after he was killed in a tragic storm chasing accident, making her huge cyclone back tattoo now more bittersweet than ever. Who are you to say these things aren’t going on? It’s a fun game, I promise.
Having a great guilty pleasure is amazing, and it can be anything from leaving work to have lunch alone in a quiet place and listen to podcasts to having a day a week when you get into your PJs as soon as your day is over and watch a great chick flick. My own personal list has been rather lacking as of late....its mainly consisted of watching reruns of Glee songs. And it doesnt matter if no one else understands it, as long as you revel in it - It totally counts.

We all have our specific insecurities, but sometimes they’re things that we’ve held onto for so long that they don’t really make sense anymore. Try choosing one of the things that really scares you – a “people will think I’m weird if I _________” kind of thing, and then be the weird kid for an afternoon. Wear that dress you never make it out the door in, strike up a conversation with a stranger, do your grocery shopping without make up, ask a cute boy for his number… whatever it is that you shy away from? Try owning that part of your inner weird kid in an out loud, public way for an afternoon. The world might turn out to be kind, you might turn out to be strong, or it could just be an afternoon of quiet bravery. Either way I bet it will be a great story.

It’s easy to complement someone on what they’re wearing, but it takes a lot more guts to tell someone you admire how they approach life with a sense of humor, or that their selflessness makes you think about ways you could try to be more like them. It’s easy to fall into the habit of addressing surface level things- and don’t get me wrong, there’s a place for that – but it’s refreshing and surprising when you tell someone what you appreciate in their character. I love looking for opportunities where I can stop being polite in favour of telling people what they mean to me. Try it out, it might be your new addiction too.

So please share what things you do to make you happy....Let's create a list!

As i have gotten older, my family history has become very important to me.  Perhaps its the scrapbooking that has added to my need for family history and stories, perhaps it's living in a completely different country to most of my family.

My gran is the best, and her life is totally amaizing!  She is such a beautiful person who has the biggest heart ever.  Thursday morning i received a letter from her, one of my all time favourite things.  I have to admit, i have been a little bad with writing letters to her this year.

So when her letter turned up my heart soared!  I knew that my evening would be filled with de-stressing and uni work so i wouldnt have time to give it the attention that it needs.  Each of these experiences is special, the last thing you want to do is rush it.

This morning i woke up, made myself a cup of tea and opened the curtains in the lounge to look out over the morning sunrise.  It's like having my Gran sitting next to me, chatting and sharing everything that is going on in our lives.  One of the hardest things about living in a different country is not being close to her, not being able to pop over for a catch up or share with her all my daily shenanigans.

Thank you Granny for all that you do for me.  For writing me the loveliest letters. For your words of encouragement. For all the great memories of holidays and fairies. For teaching me about fruit and veg.
    Love you always and forever!

I wanted to share something with you that i have been battling with, particularly over the past few weeks.

Over the lastt six years my confidence and self-worth really took a knock.  I can give you a whole list of reasons why this happened and while i didn't realise it was happening at the time, if i look back over the different experiences during that time it should have been clear as day.  Rebuilding ones worth, confidence and value takes time and is soooo much more difficult than you would think.  Its been three years since i found enough courage to get myself out of the situation that i was in and while i can honestly say that i have taken huge steps forward in a lot of area's, there are still some which i have not yet been able to overcome or improve.

This month i have been working as a manager within my department.   It's something that i have wanted for a long time now and while i thought i was completely ready for this role, these past 5 weeks have really been difficult.

It's as if i have been on a constant roller coaster.  Some moments have been great and i have felts so proud of myself, and others have been soooo difficult and have left me feeling totally unworthy.  Its strange how the things that you really believe come out when your outside of your comfort zone.  My thought patterns where no different.

When things were difficult, i would chide myself because of course i couldn't do this job - what else did i expect?.  When i didn't handle situation the way i thought i should have my head was bombarded with thoughts which told me i was not capable of doing this.  When i had daily meetings with senior management having to go over the teams performance the day before, thoughts of unworthiness flooded my mind.

This month has felt like a constant battle against those types of thoughts. Feeling as if i continually have to prove my worth as a manager has been exhausting.  Its made my need for binging worse, its highlighted my core beliefs about my worth and my value and its taught me a great deal about myself.  Change is good and a challenge stretches you as a person.  While i know that the last five weeks have by no means been entirely negative or difficult, it has allowed my eyes to be opened to what i really believe about myself.  And i know that this is something that i desperately need to work on.

The month of July will see me working on this a lot more.  My action plan for this is not yet completely set in stone but i know it will start with a little reminder to myself.

WOW, here we sit in early July and we are half way through yet another year!  June didn't really turn out how i had expected it to but it's a new month and therefore a fresh start.

So, while July is expected to be a very busy month for me i want to set some meaning full goals to get me to where i want to be.

    1. Create mind-maps and or study notes for the 8 chapters left
    2. Complete TMA 05.
    3. Love my body.
    4. Challenge myself.
    5. Try something new.
    6. Create more personal blog posts.

Normally i would do 10 or even 15 goals for the month but i know that my time will be precious so i don't want to overload myself.
