  • I came across this lovely art piece a few months ago while I was doing a study on the Proverbs 31 woman.  Unfortunately, I know cant remember where I found it so I cant give any credit....all I can say is that I didn't create this.

I hope you enjoy it. I should be back off my holiday in a few days time so I am sure there will be much to catch up on.

We all face our daily lives with choices that need to be made. Some choices are more routine than others but some of those choices have the ability to completely change the direction of your day and perhaps even your future.  It's easy to find yourself in a rut, living your day running from one task to the next, not taking the time to consider the other option possibilities. But then something happens....you find yourself in a situation where that choice has been taken away from you and you suddenly become aware that you face forced changes.

Three weeks ago, my company announced it would be moving 300 jobs to another country....and the result of that is that they would need to reduce the number of team leaders in my area.  That means that my job is also possibly at risk.  Now here is the kicker, if you had asked me a month ago if I enjoy my job and want to stay with the company I am currently with, I would say no. I love the people side of my job but hate the politics and find it difficult to get along with my manager because she is untrustworthy.  But here i sit, the possibility that I may not have this job is very real, and now I want nothing more than to keep it.  I would love to have left of my own accord, but to be let go before I am ready is terribly frightening.

When I first got the news I was shocked and focused more on my team than myself.  Then my focus started to shift towards myself and I really started to stress.  Two weeks into it I find myself spiralling towards the pits of depression and after a few days of moping around, eating junk food and watching TV, I decided to pick myself up and look at this from a different perspective.  My mindset started to move from facing uncertainty to considering the opportunity.

I started to ask myself "What am I going to do?"... and the more time I spent looking at my options the more answers I began to find.  I found myself saying things like:

    "Well, I was thinking I could ..."
"Something I have always want to try..."
"Maybe now I can find the motivation and guts to try..."

I wanted to share this part of my journey with you because maybe you too are finding yourself in situation of uncertainty.  Worrying about what tomorrow brings and how these changes are going to impact your life as you know it. If you do find yourself there, and actually perhaps even if you don't, these questions that I asked myself are a good starting point to assess where you are right now and what you want from your life.

I started the process by asking myself the following:

    1. What is my heart saying to me? In our crazy busy lives, we don't always take the time to sit still, in a quiet place, and just listen to what our heart is saying.  I don't know if you find yourselves in the same position but often I find that I talk to God constantly, telling Him what I think I need or what I am facing, asking Him to help me out or show me the way....but I don't always take the time to still the world around me to actually hear His answers.  That's what I had to do. Stop and Listen.
    2. What do I REALLY want? Sometimes, what we really want gets mixed up with what others want for us.  We end up living our lives try to please others, taking on tasks to help those around us while either hating what we are doing or getting further and further behind on what you actually want to be doing.  Figuring out how to separate out what YOU want verses what OTHER people want from you is huge!
    3. What is most important to me? We all have priorities, and sometimes those need re-evaluating. This is the perfect opportunity to do that.
    4. What is most important to me right now? Are those things that were previously important to you still as important? If not, why not and what now is?
    5. Do these decisions/choices/options fall in line with my values? This has been a real learning point for me. I just assumed that as long as I was staying true to my values then that would be fine. But what I have discovered is that the values that those directly around me affect my level of happiness and satisfaction.  By working for a manager or a company who do not value trust, honest communication, its people, respect etc, I am finding my own values conflicting with theirs....and this is what I believe has been leading to my feeling of unhappiness the past twelve months.

I just want to encourage you to take some time out and answer these questions. Pick up your favourite journal and write, doodle, paint or whatever you want to do.  Explore your heart and where you are in life. And if your facing uncertainty, alter your perspective and instead, consider the opportunities.

I love nails and art and so it makes sense to experiment with putting the two together.  One of the things that I love about my body are my nails. I am so lucky to have good nails. They grow quickly and are pretty strong. It doesn't take much work from me to keep them in good condition.

So, over the past few weeks, I have been trying new designs on my nails. All of them are painted free hand and admittedly, some of them turned out better than others, but that's how we learn right?  Here are some pictures of my nails, the good, the bad and the ugly.....as they say.

First up are my nautical nails.  If I remember correctly, I had been looking through the predicted spring trends for 2012  and all things nautical were very high on the agenda. I guess I got a little inspired to create my own nautical themed nails.

Then there was this idea.  Muted colours complementing each other.

This design was in honour of Valentines Day.  The heart was free hand and if I am honest, this is one of my favourites that I will definitely be doing time and time again.

This design would be one of the "ugly".  I like the idea but not too keen on the colours or the messiness of them.  All of it was done free hand but I really think that you can tell - which is not the type of look I am going for.

And the last two designs are simply some cheap and cheerful stickers that i purchased from Boots.  There are a whole bunch of different designed stickers of which I pretty much like all of them!  While the stickers take less skill (so to speak) they are just as fun and give a great finish to your nails. I love both of the designs below.

I hope you have enjoyed me sharing my designs with you and I hope that you will share your own.

This week I am going on holiday on my own.  It is the first holiday I have taken on my own and I am really excited about it.  I got a great deal in a holiday park which is only a few miles from the ocean. Five days, just me, the ocean and God.

I have big plans for this week and I can't wait to be able to share those things that come out of this time that I have set aside.  I want to make this "setting aside time" a regular thing in my life, perhaps once every quarter or maybe just twice a year - I'm not entirely sure on the exact details just yet.  I want to take the time to reflect on where I am in life, my current position verses where my goals would put me. I want to evaluate where I am going. I want to spend some time praying, refreshing my spirit and hopefully renewing my mind.

I hope to be able to come back having reviewed how things have gone in quarter one of 2012, a new set of goals for quarter two and a mission statement for my life right now. Along with a refreshed perspective and fingers crossed a bit of a sun tan.

Set aside 10 minutes, make yourself a cup of tea and watch the video below. Let it speak to you the way it has spoken to me.  Enjoy your week ahead, I know I will.

I still haven't yet finished all of my March pages for my Scrapbook*Life*Journal.  I definitely want to document our Iceland trip that we took, but at the moment my printer is all out of ink so once the new cartridges arrive, then I can make a start on those pages.

But, even though I have not completely finished with March, I thought I would share what I have already completed.

I am so loving this project. It gives me time to reflect, to create and to learn more about God and my life.

It has been a little while since i put together a love list but recently I have come across a lot of great stuff and wanted to share:

    * This video about the G.O.S.P.E.L is awesome.

    * Next week I am off on a holiday by the sea. My first holiday on my own and the perfect opportunity to spend some time looking at my life. Examining where I am and what I want to do with it.  A little while ago I read this post on Conducting a Personal  Quarter review and this is exactly what I am planning to do next week.

    * And these guys are brilliant and so funny!

    * What to do when life breaks you is just what I needed these past few weeks.

    * Jen at a priorfatgirl recently held "auditions" to join her family.  I put myself out there and managed to get through to the nominations round ( so proud ) but unfortunately I didn't get nominated. Well done to the two ladies who were nominated - I am definitely looking forward to going through your journeys with you.

    * I am a little late to this party but I am so going to take the ditch your scale for 30 days challenge

I wasn't expecting there to be such a big lag between my last post and this one....sorry about that.  I know this is going to sound weird, but this post feels like a big deal to me. Like a new start, and I think that it really is the beginning of something good.

I made a few decisions a couple weeks ago. I cancelled my subscription to Weight Watchers on line and I found myself another option.  It was not an easy task and definitely not an easy decision. You see, I have been doing WW on and off for the past eight years or so and I find myself here, with still so much weight to lose.  WW is a great programme, but I realised that  isn't the programme for me.

Here is what I wanted to look for: something tailored to me and my body, something that requires real food and not shakes, bars or pills.  I wanted something that would help correct any imbalances in my body chemistry and I wanted something that would reteach me how to eat.  Now I know that sounds a little weird, but all these years of dieting and binging has left me feeling like I have no idea what my body needs or what balanced eating really looks like.

With all of that in mind, I decided to find myself a dietitian.  I did a lot of research into my local dietitian options and I finally found someone who I think would be able to help me.  Meeting with her would cost a lot of money, and I had to take that money out of my savings account, but I knew that this was the way forward for me.

So I arranged a session with her and met her for our discussion.

This is the first time I have ever seen a dietitian so I was pretty nervous.  She has asked me to bring with me a food diary for the previous few days as well as a paragraph around why I wanted to see her. What had lead me to this point and what I wanted out of our session.  The session was interesting and I learnt a lot about my body and what my eating and levels of stress are doing to my body.  She suggested a bunch of supplements to help re balance my body and she has said that I should consider moving to a wheat free/gluten free way of eating.

I went home and have made some pretty big decisions about how I am going to eat going forward.  About what I am going to put into my body and I know that it will take some getting used to but it really is the best thing for me.  I wasn't given a programme to follow, a quantity of food to eat at each meal or a list of foods to avoid. What I was told was that this is going to be a trial and error programme.  It's going to involve feeding my body what it needs and then listening to what it has to say. From there, I need to tweak what and when I eat accordingly. It's going to take some practise and I am pretty sure I won't get it right first time, but I am going to keep going with it. I am going to do my best, take it one day at a time and ask God to help me with this huge journey that I have ahead of me.

Today marks the first day of my Journey to 130.  I want to lose 130lbs and I am giving myself 24 months to achieve this - that is a goal of 5lbs a month.  To help hold myself accountable, I aim to weigh in once a week, to share my struggles and my journey.

I realise that I have done a few posts on my trip to Iceland over the past few days but I have so many interesting facts and things that I loved about the country that I wanted to document it all, so here are my 10 things on the tenth - April Edition.

    1. Last names - While going on one of the tours, the tour guide told us that in Iceland, families have different surnames.  Instead of the wife taking on the husbands surname, people's surnames are "daughter or son of" and then their fathers first name.  So, if I lived in Iceland my name would be Lynne, daughter of Peter.

    2. Phone directories - Because of how the surnames work, the names in telephone books are listed alphabetically according to first names.  They also list the persons address and occupation. Apparently, some peoples occupations include "Drama Queen", "Lion tamer" and " Horse Whisperer".

    3. City life - The continent of Iceland only has one city, Reykjavik.  The population in Iceland is about 320,000 of which two thirds of that number actually live in this city.

    4. Native animal life - The biggest native animal in the continent is the arctic fox.  They have very few animals that live on the Island, about 5 or 6 in total excluding fish and birds.  There are 5 different species of Icelandic birds and best of all, they have no snakes or spiders!!

    5. Keeping warm in the cold weather - All the houses and offices in Iceland are heated not by gas, fire or electricity but rather by the hot water from the local volcano's.  This water is used to heat the houses as well as provide hot water in the homes for bathing, showering and washing dishes.  This hot water sits at 89 degrees Celsius and smells like rotten eggs.  It definitely takes a little getting used to but the smell is caused by all the sulphur in the water.

    6.  Currency - The currency is crazy, prices are in the thousands. Like my headgear that i bought cost K37,589.  Dinner cost us over K120,000.  And while that sounds like a lot, once converted in pounds, it really IS a lot of money. Things were very expensive there as almost everything is important and the country depend a great deal on tourism to keep their economy going.

    7. Influence - The island seems to be influenced by the US. A lot of the cars are US cars and there are a lot of US restaurant chains. And they drive on the same side of the road as the US.

    8. Folk Tales - The tour guide told us a lot of folk tales. They were really good and gave us an insight into the countries culture and history.

    9. Potential - Iceland is a very "new" country and the one thing that really stuck out to me was the opportunities that lie before them to develop and grow.  It's exciting what the future could hold for this country.

    10. Memories - The memories from this holiday are amazing.  It is a country that I will never forget and always encourage others to visit.

The other thing that was truly beautiful in Iceland was all the street art in the city.  It was all over the walls and buildings. It was so unique and really gave the city a atmosphere about it. We couldn't really decide if it was just artists sharing their work, or if it had been agreed by the council or government and they arranged it.

Either way, ever so often you would turn a corner or glance to your right and your eyes would be caught by this art work.

This last one, is definately my favourite.

I have an appointment at 4:30pm today.  I would be lying if I said that I wasnt just a little bit nervous but I am really hopping that it will be the turning point that I need to make some lasting changes in my weightloss journey.

Wish me luck and I will share more about these changes shortly.

Today is Palm Sunday. A day that marks Jesus's last week on earth.  It is not normally something that I took notice of before now....I mean I knew what it was and what it meant, but I never really gave the significance of it much thought. But this year, this has really changed for me. God has been revealing more of Himself to me as well as more of his Grace.

Melissa posted this video on her facebook this morning and it really is a great tool to help explain a little more about Palm Sunday.  The video is created by SkitGuys.con and there is a lot of humour in it, it definitely made me laugh.  Just while I am mentioning them, if you have some time watch some of their other videos. You will definitely enjoy them.
