  • This is what I will say in my next interview when they ask me for my 5 year plan. LOL

Five years ago today, I made one of the most significant and difficult decision of my life.  The thing is, I have written and rewritten this post numerous times over the past few days as I am not sure how much I actually want to share. So, I'll move on past all the details and onto the difference that five years has made for me.

    • These years have shown me that I am stronger than I ever thought possible.
    • Instead of constantly living from one pay check to another and often not having enough money to pay the bills, I can happily share that all my bills are paid on time, I have a small savings balance and come February 2013, all my loans will be paid off. I will be debt free!!
    • I live in a lovely flat, with nice furniture. It's taken working two jobs and slowly buying new items once I could afford them but I'm there know.
    • Most days my life feels much more peaceful than what it used to. I know longer need to be worrying about any sudden changes.
    • I am a happier person than what I used to be.
    • I'm free to go where I want and when I want, and I can spend my money however I wish.
    • I'm making new friends and am able to keep those relationships going.
    • My confidence is growing and I am learning to stand up for myself more often.
These are just a few of the changes that have occurred over the past five years and am pretty excited to see what God has in store for me and my life.

2012 has been a great year. A year in which so many great things have been going on, both in my own little world as well as in this country.  So here are the things that took place in 2012 that made this year so very memorable for me.

    • I read a bunch of really great books and got my very first Kindle.
    • I went to my first Mercy Ministries Conference down in London.
    • Much time was spent out doors going on long, lovely walks - around parks, lakes, reservoirs and fields.
    • I documented yet another day in my wonderful life.
    • Many new recipes were tried and devoured - delicious!
    • I tried to focus on learning to love my body no matter its size. I still have a way to go with this but I can see small steps of progress which I am trilled about.
    • We went to the gorgeous country of Iceland for a short holiday - pictures can be seen here, here and here.
    • I got a new hair cut.
    • I captured some of my most favorite childhood memories.
    • I became a permanent team manager, and then found out that my job was at risk for redundancy.   Five months later we found out that our jobs were safe!
    • Rashaen got a new job and I found myself on the pathway alone.
    • I've made some new friends this year.
    • I painted my nails A LOT!
    • My relationship with my heavenly father grew from strength to strength.
    • I found positive affirmations that feel like they fit me and my life.
    • It rained a lot this year. All through summer and so far all through winter.
    • The romantic in me came out a few times this year.
    • Mom and I walked 7 miles in one day - through soggy fields, mountains, bushes and so much more.
    • Herman came for a visit.
    • Some of my favorite posts by other people. This world is filled with some really amazing people.
    • I went to Wales all on my own for my first single holiday. I met some great people there and had a really lovely time.
    • I turned 31 this year and had the best birthday ever! And 30 things I learnt in my 30 years so far.
    • Such great inspiration in 2012
    • I passed my Biological Psychology course with a grade 2 pass - 73% overall.
    • I won a spot on Soul Restoration 2 and have loved every single minute of it.
    • The Olympics was awesome and I was so very proud to be South African.
    • We got an extra public holiday this year - the Queens Jubilee.
    • We had a Royal Wedding and an announcement of a royal baby on the way.
    • Many great people passed away this year, including Whitney Houston, Neil Armstrong and many more.
    • I found a great church and can't wait to get more involved next year.
    • I started my own gratitude journal - and have kept it up since August.
    • I have paid my car off in full - woohoo!
There are many great things from 2012 and I can't wait to see what 2013 brings. Thanks for sharing this year with me.

I have always loved reading, ever since I was a little girl.  I remember getting certificate after certificate at school for the number of books that I had read during the year.  I loved writing book reports on them and then getting up in front of the class and sharing that report with the rest of the class - a little geek at heart.

My love for books has followed me through to my adult life.  I try to read every night before I turn the light out.  When I fancy a relaxing morning, I curl up in bed with a cup of tea and a good book.  I thought that this year, I would document my favorite books from 2012 and share what I have learnt or what I enjoyed about those books.

    1. A Confident Heart by Renee Swope.

This book is a great book, and I would 100% recommend it.  Renee did a book study that started in January and I followed along with that. One chapter a week. It was a good pace to not only read the book and take it in, but it gave me the opportunity to take the time to reflect on myself and answer the questions.  I learnt a lot from the book and will be reading it again.

    2. Unlimited by Jillian Michaels.

I love how Jillian writes, it's as if your sitting chatting over a cup of tea.  To be honest  by the time I finished the book, I had wished that I had made notes or underlined or something.....there is just so much good content in this book that it's impossible to take it all in with one read. So I guess what I am saying is that at some point, I plan to re-read this book.

    3. The fault in our stars by John Green.

I heard great things about this book before reading it. In August I went on a singles holiday to Wales and decided it was the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in a story.  I couldn't put the book down. The story was beautiful and so sad.  Be prepared to cry ..... and laugh!  I picked  up my copy from the library so if you would rather save your pennies then check out your local library. Enjoy this book - it has a great and unforeseen twist in it.

    4. Pearl in the sand by Tessa Afshar.

I don't really know where to start with this book.  I couldn't put it down. I read it in six days. I feel like I need to read this book again and again.  The story is beautiful, the writing is descriptive and the message is soul changing.  This book portrays God in all his amazing awesomeness and magnificence.  The God of the Israelites is the God of today - and that is so awesome.  I don't want to give too much away for those of you who haven't read the book, but this book also spoke to me about my own worth and value. Such a lovely book!

    5. Submerged by Dani Pettrey.

This is the first book that I read on my new Kindle and can I just say I LOVE my Kindle.  Submerged was another fantastic Christian book. The characters are great and before you even know it you find yourself rooting for them. Another page turning story line - one filled with love and suspense and excitement.

So, do you have any great book reviews to share?

Here I am, sitting on my couch with a lovely cup of tea.  Oh man, it feels like it has been ages since I last had the opportunity to sit down and relax for a bit.

So, what news do I have to share? Hmmmm.....let me think.

Well, I finished my biological psychology course and very proudly achieved 71% or a grade 2 pass for the overall course. Another one down and only two more to go.  Saying that, I have registered for my next course, the material has arrived and after Christmas I will be starting my second last course for my degree.

I have been sick a lot lately!  I'm not normally someone who battles with being unwell, but these past six or so weeks I have found myself trying to get over one thing or another.  Even as I sit here, I can feel my throat is starting to feel sore again and my bad chest is once again getting worse rather than better.  I guess I am going to have to try get in to see the doctors tomorrow to get yet another round of antibiotics.

All my Christmas shopping is done and wrapped, but other than the cards on my fireplace mantle, you wouldn't know it was Christmas in my house. Being so sick has meant that I have had very little energy to get things done in the evenings. Getting through the work day has taken every ounce of energy I could muster, so nights have been spent laying on the couch or fast asleep.

I have had some major issues at work, but through all of that I have still managed to be Top Performing team manager two months in a row. Due to the Christmas incentive going on at work, I won £500 in vouchers.  That was a great surprise this side of Christmas.

During those periods of time when I was feeling a little more energetic, I have been taking part in an on line course called Soul Restoration 2. I have loved it and still have so much work that I want to do on my life journal....but what I have done so far I have really enjoyed doing.

Over the next few days, I am really hoping to be able to have clean out in my house. Getting rid of all my junk and just having a general sort out. I really want to head into the new year with a clean house and a structured plan for tackling the year ahead.

I have a few more posts planned this side of 2012, one of which is going to be a real milestone for me.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend
    xx
