My word for 2012 is wholeness.
It came to me a few weeks ago while i was taking some time to think about my life during 2011 and what i liked and didn't like about it. While making a list of the ordinarily and extraordinary things that i do on a monthly basis and assigning a happiness quotient to each one, i realised that what i really wanted in 2012 was to experience more wholeness in my daily life.
Wholeness | completeness, integrity, entirety, unity
I love all those synonyms - that's exactly what i want my 2012 to be. There were many words that i could have chosen for myself for 2012 but this one feels like it fits for what i want to achieve, for where i want my focus to be kept. This year I have learnt a few things while managing people, one of which was creating Personal Development Plans and setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-based) objectives for those PDP's.
I wanted to implement in my own life what i have been encouraging my team to do, so over the past few weeks i have been compiling and refining my goals and plans for 2012....all while bearing in mind my one little word of wholeness. Until last night, I was finding that i was getting a little bogged down in the details. I know that I learnt that in order for people to be more likely to achieve the tasks they put on their PDP's, you should add no more than 3-5 objectives. This is a realistic number of achievable objectives. But i had a problem...while i knew that there were three main area's that i wanted to focus my goal of wholeness within my life, there seemed to be an ever growing list of things that i wanted to do. And then i realised something rather obvious...plans are not goals. Plans are what you use to help you achieve your goals. I don't know why i didn't get it at first but once that clicked, my work came together nicely.
So keeping my one little word, here are my goals and then plans for 2012:
1. My body - to create wholeness within my body by doing what i can i.e losing weight, eating healthy, exercising etc.
So here you have it, my one little word for 2012 as well as my plans and goals to help me achieve the life that i want. Each month i am going to review where i am on my journey as well as set specific plans for that month to help me move forward. Feel free to visit me along my journey and don't forget to say hi.
