Making your own Mentor
Monday, February 21, 2011I came across this inspiration from Kyla's Blog today and loved it. I could really do with a bit of a pick me up at the moment. I think this is going to be a monthly entry for me - i love the idea of finding out more about those people who inspire you and seeing what you can pick up from them for your own life. Women, men, celebrities and the girl next door - no one is off limits.
So my first making your own Mentor is going to be Oprah Winfrey
I am assuming that most people know Oprah, or are at least familiar with who she is. This amazing woman is an inspiration not only to myself but to millions of other people out there. So, let me tell you a little more about her.
Who?
- Her middle name is Gail and she was born in 1954
- She was born into poverty but created and shared her own riches
- She had a tough time growing up, including being raped at 9, running away from home at age 13 and finding herself pregnant at 14. She lost her son not long after giving birth to him
- She started on the radio and now has her own international talk show
- She took chances which led her to where she is today
Why they're magnetic?
- Her spirit of strength and her drive
- Her unapologetic spirit
- Her business savy
- Her focus on real issues and real people - there is no fake there
- Her courage to be herself and share her struggles
- Her beauty and dress sense......love it!
- The way that she enjoys people and has this way of encouraging and inspiring them
- Her ability to "be present"
- She isn't selfish - she is kind, giving and has helped many people to achieve what they may not have been able to achieve alone. Dr Phil, Gayle King, Nate, Barack Obama
- Her ability to switch and change focus
- Her sense of self and the language that she uses
What i want to take from their story?
- You don't need to feel bad, ashamed or apologise for who you are and what you believe
- Knowing yourself, being present in the moment and taking risks is both strength and power
- Rock your talents and skills
- Be real - in this world people need to have someone around them who is down to earth, honest, encouraging and simply there
- One person really can make an impact on those around them simply by doing what they love and being who they are
- You cant let your past dictate your future, or the words of those said while growing up or two seconds ago
