Live Brave

  • "Gratitude turns what we have into enough"

One of my aims for this year is to intentionally live a life of gratitude.  I have tried to take this approach over the years but this year I really wanted a way to focus my gratitude as well as document it.  One of the things that i am loving about it so far is that it is also working as a bit of a documented life book.  Several good reasons coming out of this intention.

Towards the end of last year I was browsing the Internet looking at gratitude projects and I came across these gratitude journals from Monika. I knew I wanted one so I put it on my Christmas wish list and it arrived under the tree on Christmas morning.

I love what it looks like and the amount of opportunity it holds on all those blank pages.  I decided that I wanted to capture my One Little Word on the inside cover and so did.  The page opposite that I wrote a little note to myself.

I also thought it would be great to put my Word Warrior verse on each months "cover page" as a reminder each and every day that I open my journal.

Each new week brings with it a gorgeous new sheet of paper. Weeks one and two can be seen below.

For week three I decided to add a little washi tape to my page and love how it makes this little journal even more unique to me.

Week four I decided to add a little photo to my page. It was the sunrise one morning and there was just no way that I would have been able to describe it in enough detail to capture its true beauty - so a photo it was.

As I've already said, I love how this months journal has come along.  Living with a grateful heart is impacting my life more and more each day.

As part of my one little word 2014 project, I wanted to document the monthly bible verse that I am memorizing and what it has meant to me during the month.  Just a few days after deciding on my intentions, I came across Mandisa's Word Warrior challenge and decided that it was the perfect fit to help me achieve this intention.
     January's scripture is below.

What a great scripture to start the year off with.  I love the daily reminder that He who is in me is stronger than he who is in the world – especially when I am finding myself dealing with a difficult person or situation.  It has also been a great reminder that just because my body is weak, doesn't mean that I have to do what it wants. I can dig deep, ask for Gods strength, and overcome the temptation that my body was battling over.
I am looking forward to February’s scripture and will update you all next month with how I got on with it.
And if you have a favorite verse, please share it in the comments below.

I have fallen completely and totally in love with candles since moving into my own house in August.  I have candles in the lounge, the hallway, the kitchen, both bedrooms and the bathroom – I am addicted!  My only  problem with this new love that I have is that I find myself with a lot of left over wax which I end up doing nothing with other than throwing it away.  I have been meaning to have a look on the internet and find some ideas as to what to do with the left over wax but before I had a chance to do this an idea hit me.

    This is what I did:
Step 1: Light your existing candle and allow the surrounding wax to completely melt.  While your candle is melting, gather a small glass container and a birthday candle.

Step 2 : Measure your birthday candle against your small glass jar and trim it down to fit if necessary.

Step 3 : Being careful not to burn your hands, pour the liquid wax from the old candle jar to the new smaller glass container.  Once you have poured it in place your birthday candle in the glass container and hold it there for 30 – 60 seconds. ( you will find that the wax at the bottom of the glass container starts to harden first as it is poured into the cold glass container.

Step 4 : Allow the wax to harden and then you have a new candle.

This was such a quick and easy project and while it’s by no means revolutionary, it has saved me some money and allowed me to get the most out of my candle.
