Live Brave

  • Last weekend I treated my mom and myself to a much needed day of relaxation.  We have both had a few stress filled months lately so I thought it would be good to spend a few hours removed from the world, relaxing our bodies and our minds, catching up on each others lives and having a few laughs.

We started off in the aromatherapy room. A steam room of sorts infused with menthol.  The heat was the perfect temperature for both of us ( neither of us can manage the stuffy, hot atmosphere of the sauna ) and taking in deep breaths felt so good.

From the aromatherapy room we made our way to the chill out room. This room was amazing. Two tiled chairs, shaped in such a way that your body just melts into it. And did I mention...... these chairs were heated!  Heaven I tell you.

After a cup of tea, we made our way to the Hydro pool where we enjoyed numerous jets of water massaging and hitting our body all over.  We spent ages in this heated pool and loved every minute of our time in it.

The best part of the day definitely occurred after all of this relaxation.  The main highlight of the day was the back, neck and shoulder massage, followed by a facial and ended with a foot scrub.  Now that trio was enough to bring yourself back into your own body and proved to be exactly what we both needed.

The one take away from the day was the reminder of how important it is to do things like this that help to look after yourself. It's not only about eating right and working out - relaxing is just as important.

Hello February - I am so excited that you are here!  Just one more month of winter and then we head into Spring - Woohoo!! So, without further ado lets get started on February's goals.

    February's Goals

    1. Nurture the relationships already in my life | Write to Larissa, email Rayo, call Granny, see Julie. Spend time nurturing those relationships which are important to me.2. Finish reading one book | This month I plan to start reading "Harvest of Rubies" and "Restless". I am excited to make a start on both of these books. 3. Reorganize and tidy up the bathroom | It is time to have a good clear out and tidy up in the bathroom. 4. Complete January's Project Life album | Looking forward to documenting a few new things this month in Project Life.  5. Complete my One Little Word February prompt | This month's prompt is apparently going to be slightly different to previous years and I am so excited to watch the video and make a start. 6. Set a budget and track January's spend | I think I am going to have to reign in my spending a little more during February and hopefully this will help to keep me accountable.  7. Save 10% of my salary | Building up my emergency fund.8. Weigh less at the end of February than I did at the beginning of the month. | My focus for February is around consistency.....and a monthly challenge of no chocolate. Lets see what happens.  9. Track my daily habits | This month I am going to approach my daily habits in a slightly different way....and if it works better than my previous method I will be sure to share it.  10. Have my eyes tested | I haven't had an eye test in years - part of being healthy is doing that sort of thing so I am going to make a plan in order to check this off. 11. Start studying Joshua | I am loving the impact that this time has had on my life so far and will definitely be continuing with this one. Goal 11 done!

Here's to a great month ahead.

And that my friends is the end of January....boy has this month just flown by. This month has been a pretty good month but I am looking forward to it being February tomorrow.  Last year I did my monthly wrap-up and new goals in one post but this year I am going to shake things up and do separate posts. So welcome to my January wrap-up.

    January's Goals

1.Book an appointment with the Oral Hygienist | I almost chickened out of this one. I have this ridiculous fear of dentists and while I force myself to go to my six monthly check ups, I have up until now, seen these as optional. My one little word of Brave has been lent on a lot this month because not only did I book the appointment but there was a cancellation and so I ended up going to the appointment as well during January!  Go Lynne!
    2. Finish reading one book | I had planned to finish reading "What Colour is Your Parachute" but I wanted to spend the proper time working through the activities so instead, I decided that I was going to read "Pearl in the sand". This is the second time that I have read this book and I loved it just as much, if not more, this time round. If you haven;t yet read it then take the plunge. Goal 2 done!
    3. Apply for a volunteering position | I finally applied for a volunteering role.  The next intake of new people is in April so for now this larger goal is on hold. Goal 3 done!
    4. Prepare my Project Life album for 2016 | Goal 4 Done. Feel free to take a look at my first few pages here.
    5. Decide on my One Little Word for 2016 and complete January's prompts | So I didn't get around to sharing my pages on the blog but they are all done. This years word is turning into some really personal stuff so far so I may decide to pick and choose which prompts to share as the year goes on. Goal 5 done.
    6. Set a budget and track against it | I am counting this goal as done. Budget is all setup for the year as well as more specifically for January. The only thing that I haven't yet done is track January's spend but as the month is not yet done I haven't yet completed it.
    7. Save 10% of my salary | Goal 7 done!
    8. Lose or maintain my weight at each weeks weigh in | January has been a bit of a fluctuating month for my weekly weigh-ins unfortunately. So while I weigh less at the end of the month than I did starting out the month, I wasn't able to keep that weight loss consistently going in the right direction.
    9. Stretch or do Yoga each week day | This was a complete fail for me.  I think what would have made this goal more doable was if I had picked out a routine before hand. Instead I spent ages searching for the perfect one and then did't like the routine.
    10. Take my vitamins daily | Goal 10 achieved!
    11. Come to the well | I am loving the impact that this time has had on my life so far and will definitely be continuing with this one. Goal 11 done!

Nine out of eleven goals done is brilliant. A great start to 2016!
